Newborn viral meningitis

Hi all really just looking for anyone with experience in this. My newborn got diagnosed with viral meningitis at 2 weeks old, it has been incredible stressful but we got him home yesterday (as he was treated for bacterial until the full results came through confirming viral) the only thing they said was that one of his urine tests was ‘mixed’ but they weren’t worried. He saw all the consultants and doctors and they were happy to discharge him yesterday. He’s been eating drinking fine and he is fussy which they said is to be expected but his temp keeps spiking to 37.8 for a short period in the evening the goes down again. I called the ward they said give him calpol it is to be expected for a few days after and I’m taking him to GP tomorrow. He’s back to normal temp again after calpol but any other advice would be appreciated

That's a horrible experience. Did they tell you which virus - enterovirus for example?

I'm sorry you've gone through that, it must be very stressful. Has the children's ward given you open access to return if you get more worried?

It’s called enterovrirus yes that’s it! Not open access no we were at St George’s in tooting is just very limited beds and no time frames on how long his temp may spike for either

I can't tell you how long the fever will last, but I do know that full recovery from enterovirus meningitis is the normal outcome 💕

Don't be afraid to 'bother' the ward, the GP or even A&E if you are worried.

My little one had viral meningitis at 3 weeks old. I can’t recall how long his borderline fever lasted but he had a bulging fontanelle for weeks. I hope your ok, it was such a stressful time for me x

This happened to my niece and she made a full recovery and is now a bouncy tween

It was hugely stressful for her parents waiting to find out if bacterial so be kind to yourself while you get over the shock of the journey.

The babies I have seen with this made full recoveries. Fingers crossed that you see the same with your baby.

Aww OP my DS had that at 3 weeks old, we were in St George’s as well. Horrible time but he recovered in a few days and he’s now 10 years old, robust as you like.
I hope you have some support around you?
