Does anyone know what this is? I think I need to take him to the GP, but I would be grateful if anyone has seen this before. He's 6 years old.
Thank you.

Hand foot and mouth possibly, this would be the end and not worth seeing anyone over. Give it a few days and see if it clears up.

toomanyplasticfiles · 20/07/2026 19:40

How long has it gone on for?

Only noticed it yesterday.
I don't think it's hand foot and mouth as it doesn't look like the photos.

We are going on holiday in a couple of days so I feel he should be seen before then.

Could he be chewing them? My ND son often chews the skin on his fingers and they end up looking like this

I wondered this myself but I haven't caught him chewing them.

Has he been swimming? I used to be allergic to chlorine and my skin would peel like this if in too long

My son had something similar to this. Needed antibiotics and it cleared up after about a week. It was horrible! He kept picking and biting it. We got the antibiotics from the pharmacy so I'd give them a shot if you have issues seeing the gp

DinoLil · 20/07/2026 20:12

How strange, only because, at age 54, I've had exactly the same thing for about four months and it's only just clearing up. The only thing that changed is the dozens of different creams I used to get rid. Nothing worked so I gave up and now it's almost gone.

No idea what it is.

Chairoverthere · 20/07/2026 20:14

Scarlet fever?

ThursdayLastWeek · 20/07/2026 20:15

My DS reminded me today that he had something similar when he was about 4. It was on his toes too, and started just before a foreign holiday too.

We put it down to a reaction to a recent course of antibiotics. It cleared up on its on in the Portuguese sunshine!

Ilovecrispstoomuch · 20/07/2026 20:20

Has he been unwell? It’s more than likely not related, but peeling hands can be a sign of Kawasaki disease. I would get him seen to be sure.

Lunchtimehelp · 20/07/2026 20:53

He doesn't seem to have any other symptoms.

it might not be this at all, but I get this every single summer and I have done for years. I think I read a couple of years ago it’s a reaction to sweat/heat in your finger tips. So it could be that! I only get it when the weather is warm

He's is a very sweaty child!

I think I'll try and see the pharmacist, especially as we are going away in a couple of days.

My toes were like that when I caught Hand Food & Mouth from my toddler. It was the last symptom.

ChocHotolate · 20/07/2026 21:42

Any fevers? Red eyes? Red tongue?

Contact dermatitis? My son's fingers go like this when he touches things with rubber in them. Narrowed it down to a cricket bat handle.

MassiveOvaryaction · 20/07/2026 22:21

Pompholyx/dyshidrotic eczema? It's little blistery things but when I get it they dry out then peel.

AnonSugar · 22/07/2026 20:34

My 11 year old son has this now. Also on his toes. He had a cough prior to it but nothing major.
