3yo brownish discharge

Worried8788 · Yesterday 19:09

During this afternoon DD 3yo has been having light brownish discharge in knickers - it looks like bloody discharge to me like I would sometimes get. It’s at front of knickers and def not poo, no smell. Nothing on wiping. Enough to go through to other side of knickers. I called Gp and they said bring her in now so I did but she wouldn’t let him examine her and became very distressed clinging on to her knickers and hiding her face and wailing, so he said not to force it. She then buried herself in me whimpering for rest of appt. I’m so worried what could be wrong nothing comes up when I search and he seemed mystified. She hasn’t reported any pain and no change in toilet frequency. Also worried I looked like a terrible mum forcibly trying to remove knickers against wishes. It was so distressing and I’m in an awful state now. He sent me home with a swab and a urine sample pot but she won’t let me do these either. Said if it persisted to come see a female doctor. I’m so scared it’s something scary and also that he thinks I’m terrible , I’ve searched but can’t find anything similar which makes me even more worrids

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Has she been riding her bike? Or horse riding? I've had it before where I've bashed my vulva and it's bled a little and created that sort of browny stain.

Worried8788 · Yesterday 19:45

no, she has a little ride on trike but it has a wide seat and she’s had for ages and never had a problem before
she is also refusing the swab
I’m so worried

My dd had a birth mark on her labia which bled really badly once. Sounds like she is in pain though, could you get her to sit in a warm bath and maybe show you? Does she go to nursery / childcare? Have other adults in her life?

BrownOwlknowsbest · Yesterday 19:57

It could also be as simple as she is slightly dehydrated so her urine is darker than usual and she hasn't wiped herself very well after a pee.

Worried8788 · Yesterday 20:09

No it’s not wee, I’ve been wiping her today. Nothing shows on toilet roll. She goes to preschool but hasn’t been there since Friday. She’s been with me all the time. She says it doesn’t hurt.

now seen there is a rare cancer common to girls under 5 that presents with vaginal discharge or bleeding. 3 year olds don’t get heavy brown discharge that I’ve now seen has also gone to trousers and gone all day. I actually can’t cope

My daughter had what I think was vulvovaginitus - I think probably from a bubble bath that she hadn’t used before, but could have been that she hadn’t wiped properly. Her vulva was very red and sore, and she had dirty looking discharge in knickers, looked like the last day of a period. It sounds quite similar although possibly not quite the same as your daughter.
I made sure that she properly rinsed herself with clean water a couple of times a day in the shower, and used a barrier cream after each wee on the toilet. It cleared up quickly after a day or so, before we’d managed to get a gp appointment. I hope your daughter is feeling better soon, it’s very scary for you

Thanks - yes to me it looks like what I get similar to before my period, tan coloured browny watery blood. I hope it is this.
ive just done the swab whilst she was sleeping but it was very difficult as she was moving a lot and resisting, I don’t really know where I managed to poke it.. then I messed up trying to get it in the tube as didn’t realise there was a lid that came off so was poking it into the lid for ages so is it now contaminated anyway :(

I tried to get a look down there but she was clamping legs and moving, I think it did look quite red though but I couldn’t really see . But does it always? Since potty training it’s not like I’m having a regular look :(

I am so worried

Fingers crossed the swab worked and you get some answers, I’d try a cool bath or shower and try and get her to give everything a good rinse without soap to freshen up in the morning. Hopefully it will start to clear soon

My dd has had vulvovaginitis several times now, the nurse at the GPs suggested baking soda baths without any bubble bath or other products in the water and this has always cleared it up after a couple of baths.

I’ve just checked on her and I can see more on the night nappy - looked orangey but hard to tell in dark. She’s only been lying down as well. I’m so scared. And she is not going to be any less distressed if go back to doctor only more plus they will want to wait for results of my terrible contamnjnated swabs

I really hope you can try some of the suggested treatments and that she just recovers quickly.

@Gardenisablooming um what? Thats...... odd!

@Worried8788 I know its easier to say than do but please try not to consult Dr Google! Wait and see what the docs say. Hopefully......... its just some weird infection that can be easily sorted with antibiotics.
