Child age 8 reflux

Hi, I’m looking to see what helped other people’s children with acid reflux. We have been to the gp and a gastro specialist and they’ve just said omeprazole. That won’t help with a cure though. We have recently started a probiotic and hoping that may help. I think he has it around 4 times a day and it’s just a small mouthful of sick when he burps after food.

can anyone share what has helped with their children

Assume youve trialled food exclusions to rule out allergy?

Only dairy so far. He had a blood test years ago and that said he didn’t have an allergy to gluten

Actually, a decent course of omeprazole clears it up in a lot of kids. By dropping the acidity of the refluxing stomach contents, the gullet can actually heal up, which improves motility and sphincter function. Takes a few months.

Yep, we’re going to start the omeprazole tomorrow. All I’ve read is that it comes back when it’s stopped though. Is that not the case?

I’d say that a good 90% of the time if they take it for 3 months, then it doesn’t come back on stopping.

A non-ige allergy won't show up on tests. The only way to test for it is food exclusion.

My kid only gets reflux when constipated. As longs that’s not an issue I have no advice!
