HFM and upcoming tonsillectomy?

Hi all,

DS (2) is due to have a tonsillectomy in 2 weeks. He had his preop almost 2 weeks ago and the nurse had to check with the consultant that it could definitely go ahead as he was on antibiotics for a chest infection and then steroids for croup. She said how they can’t have any respiratory infection or tonsillitis for 4 weeks prior to the surgery and to let ENT know asap if ds were to get any other infection.

Today, I noticed a few little spots in his nappy region and these have now multiplied and also on his hands feet and inside his gums. His little friend he had play dates with last week has been confirmed to have HFM and pharmacist confirmed ds has it too 😭.

For now, they haven’t blistered and he seems fine in himself. Eating and drinking normally. Does it normally get worse once the spots appear?

Also has anyone been in a similar situation regarding having it with upcoming surgery? I’ve left a message with the ENT consultants secretary.

Any advice appreciated 😊

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh that is rotten timing. I hope he feels better soon.

@ExplodingSmittens thankyou ☺️❤️ It’s typical, he wasn’t ill in ages before the chest infection and croup and now all seem to be emerging just before his op😫 I’ve already arranged childcare for ds1 so hoping it goes ahead xx
