Potty Training

I’m really struggling with potty training my 3 year old.

She’ll only use the potty if I physically put her on it or tell her to try and use it and even then she often kicks off and says she doesn’t need to/want to go. She can’t recognise when she needs to go and so has multiple accidents. She’s a bright kid in many ways so I’m confused as to why it isn’t sticking but I’m starting to feel like a failure for not having a fully toilet trained child at age 3.

She doesn’t start school until September 2027 fortunately so I have time but when it comes to this she seems really behind but I’m lost with how to sort it.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My 1st was really similar and I just persisted, took plenty of spare clothes and eventually they got it! My 2nd was a breeze and I did nothing different at all! It was stressful at the time but honestly it just clicks one fay! X

With my first I just left her without pants on or only knickers, she had a lot of accidents but I was persistent and just kept on going. Watched for any signs that she may need to go and constantly asked her if she needed to use the potty. It took us a long time but she got there eventually!,
you’re not a failure!, a lot of parents I know struggled with their first when potty training, including myself x
