My 10 month old has a very small cold sore on his lip. Otherwise seems ok in himself . I went to the Gp bu they just said monitor . I’m worried it’s gonna get worse or go to his eye and get really bad …

Could you put some of those cold sore patches over it so that even if he touches it he can't transfer to his eye? They don't have to be specifically for cold sores, any hydrocolloid patch would do i think.

My 13 month old has a history of cold sores. I unfortunately (accidentally of course) transmitted the virus to her at 3 months of age. She was fine at 3 months old, didn't seem to bug her and bothered me way more (although she had a lot of sores around her mouth). She has frequent recurrences since. Every time she gets a bug or something that stresses her immune system (like international travel). It's EXTREMELY stressful as I have health anxiety, so I know how you feel. But your little one will be totally fine. At 10 months, they are out of the high risk period. But my daughter's did spread to her hands months ago as they were constantly in her mouth. Not dangerous, but uncomfortable and annoying. So I recommend keeping your baby's hands out of his mouth. Put socks on his hands for overnight and nap time. That's what I do with my daughter. A brief graze isn't enough to transmit the virus into his eye... he would really need to rub it. So just keep his hands away. You could always try to use mittens during the day as well. I did that too when my daughter was a bit younger. And try to keep his hands always occupied with toys. It will be a stressful few days but fortunately, it's short lived. You can get through it!

Thanks so much
I was just so worried about it spreading to his eyes and causing serious damage . So hard to stop them rubbing their eyes

First cold sore is unlikely to be one if it's small.
