Has anyone’s children caught chickenpox from exposure 2 days before spots started?

One of my 5 year olds class mates started with chickenpox 2 weeks ago this Friday and he was playing with him on the Wednesday. My 5 year old started with a cold on Sunday and has been really run down, I’m wondering if it’s the start

It’s contagious from 2 days before rash appears.

I believe so, was just checking if anyone had experience of 2 days before as everything I have read has been the day before

I've always seen it as 1-2 days before spots appear for the start of the contagious period.

It was going round my sons class for approx 2 months tbh: they were all dropping like flies.

my daughter didn’t catch it from her brother though
