My lovely dd who is mid-teens has just been diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia.
We noticed her hair thinning at puberty a couple of years ago, and I’d seen that was “normal” but about 6 months ago it was even more noticeable and now it’s confirmed.
I’m absolutely devastated for her. Clearly there are worse problems in the world but my poor girl having to go through her life with this.
I don’t think she really realizes what it is or what could lie ahead of her. I want to educate her but don’t want to scare her. We will start her on minoxidil in the next few days. Life long treatment apparently, and likely to result in increased shedding before any regrowth.
Also need to watch her younger sister who’s approaching puberty.
Fuck you alopecia.
