Chicken Pox - Lymph Node?

Hi everyone,

Our two-and-a-half-year-old son has chicken pox. He’s probably in the worst stage now as he is covered and is incredibly itchy. Today, I noticed this little lump behind his ear. I’m a huge worrier at the best of times but trying to keep calm and think this is a lymph node that has swollen due to the virus. I read on Google this can happen but just wanted to ask the lovely people on here if they have had experience or similar with their kids? Does it look like a swollen lymph node? Will it go down?

Thank you.

Hi OP, obviously best to get this checked out but I do remember my eldest having the same when he was also unwell with a virus. It did go down though can’t remember how long it took. Tip for the CP, Head and Shoulders original shampoo as bubble bath. Worked wonders for my eldest when he had it. Soothed the itching and healed quickly. He was also 2.5. Hope your LO is much better soon.

Yes it looks like a lymph node. Typical place. Totally normal. Keep an eye on it. Probably take about 4 weeks to go down. Anti histamines help the itching.
