Could anyone help with clarity on these spots on my 5 year old.
started around 1-2 weeks ago. Started on hands also couple on face, upper arm, lower back odd one on foot/ankle.
presented with a viral rash on February looked like slapped cheek syndrome gp said was viral.unsure if related.
lower back is itchy and eczema looking I thought due to heat weather suddenly changing but doesn’t explain the spots on his hands.
nobody else in house has them unlikely to think bites as only been at home and school.
anyone have any ideas?
already requested GP appointment but wanted to know whether I can do anything in the meantime.

Hate to tell you, but those look like bed bug or flea bites…..

impartialusername · 22/03/2026 17:54

well we have no pets and my son has just got a brand new bed and mattress so unlikely to be bed bugs. Plus he comes into my bed most of the time and I haven’t got any bites! So unless something is biting him at school it’s highly unlikely

Hand foot and mouth

I would say HFM too.

Keep skin moisturised, cool, and stop scratching; antihistamine can help itch.
See doctor sooner if fever, spreading rash, or child seems unwell.

Molluscum?

impartialusername · 26/03/2026 20:26

The GP did seem to think molluscum. However more spots have appeared and I’ve realised he has 2 sores inside his mouth so now wondering if he has Hand foot and mouth? Except his spots aren’t contained to his hands and feet! It definitely looks more viral in that his whole skin seems to look bumpy? He has seemed abit grumpy this week but no fever or any other symptoms
