Any chance this is chicken pox

This pic is my DS this morning. He has quite a few spots that are like a raised bump but under the skin, the way a heat bump looks, with all this pink skin surrounding them (and scratch marks, he's scratched them). Still none of them have blisters this evening. I don't think they look hugely like chicken pox but nursery suggested it and I'm worried!

Any chance this is chicken pox

They tend to pop out in warm areas to start with - underarms etc. where are they?

Octagonchecker · 19/03/2026 20:59

Just the tummy, and one on his back.

Time will tell with chicken pox.

If it hasn't changed at all by tomorrow, it's not that likely.

Was he unwell before the spots came out?

Some children do have it very mildly with only a few spots - but they do usually follow the redness, blister, crust format.

Have you looked to see if there is any bite in the centre of them?

pollytparrot · 19/03/2026 21:13

Can’t see a picture but it sounds like Scabies?

Sorry the pic is still under review. It doesn't look anything like scabies pics in Google.
He hasn't been at all unwell today. No bites that I can see.

Is there an outbreak at nursery?

TeddyBeans · 19/03/2026 21:51

Molluscum contagiosum is often mistaken for CP. Can't see the pic yet so can't say for sure but it's an option

2UNDR2 · 19/03/2026 23:19

Not CP looks more like a contact rash or allergies. Has he been outside in the grass?

Octagonchecker · 20/03/2026 10:20

Most of them have faded or shrunk overnight so I don't think it's pox thank god!
