Rash - not meningitis

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has seen similar as I’m a bit unsure what to make of it.

My 13 year old daughter developed a rash on Saturday morning – it came on quite suddenly and has gradually been getting worse.

Timeline:

  • Saturday: Rash appeared on chest/back/stomach – red raised bumps, quite rough to touch. No other symptoms.
  • Sunday: Rash spread to tops of arms, tops of legs, neck and scalp. Started to get itchy.
  • Monday: Much redder and more irritated, very itchy (especially overnight). GP said it could be pityriasis rosea but wasn’t certain. Also mentioned a small chance of chickenpox but there are no blisters.
  • Tuesday: Started with headache and stomach ache. Rash still spreading and looking more inflamed.
  • Wednesday: Similar – rash still very red and itchy.
  • Thursday (today): Rash looks the same. Now also has a sore throat and burning eyes.

Her temperature is normal and the rash does fade with the glass test.

I will go back to the GP, but just wondered in the meantime if anyone’s child has had anything similar and what it turned out to be?

Thanks in advance!

I would go back to the docs or call 111 - the burning eyes, rash and throat ring alarm bells for me for Kawasaki Disease

Sore throat and rough rash could be scarlet fever

I had pityriasis after having COVID but it wasn't itchy. It didn't normally spread to the head/neck.

I know it sounds stupid, but could it be measles?!

Thanks so much for coming back to me, sorry for the delay. The GP ended up sending us to hospital on Friday where she had blood tests/cultures, urine test, a chest x-ray and a couple of really thorough physicals. Nothing showed up other than nitrates in her urine which they have given antibiotics for. They were pretty puzzled by it and said to go back if we get to day 10 with no change (today is day 8).

The rash has now spread to her hands/face so the only clear part of her body is her lower legs. Today is also her first day with a temperature.

@OtterMummy2024 nobody has mentioned measles but it crossed my mind. Thank you so much for replying.

@Seeline again something I considered but they didn't mention this either. Thank you so much for replying.

@RecyclingSal thank you, they ruled this out.
