My son has been referred for a blood test today by the gp he has had on and off swollen lymph nodes in his neck I feel awful I don’t know how long they have been that way I thought it was neck muscle! One is 2cm big :( he is otherwise fine in himself! Trying not to worry but can’t help it. His dad is saying he had a similar thing when he was young. Calling the go back tomorrow for a chat as am stressedddddd

I had something similar when I was little, monitored for a couple of years but they just thought viral in the end. Try not to google.

99.9% of the time they’re nothing to worry about very normal for kids to have swollen lymph nodes.

If you want to reassure yourself a little before the tests have a feel of them, if they’re smooth and move under your fingers most likely not a concern.

Thanks! I was told they are “rubbery” not sure if that’s good or bad!

Woahbodyforrrrm · 16/03/2026 22:34

My son has had the same on and off since around the age of 5. He is 15 now and still gets swollen lymph nodes. He had bloods and an ultrasound done and they said they were nothing to worry about and sometimes kids just get them.

It’s great they’re going to check him out and hopefully you’ll get peace of mind Flowers

EMG1998 · 16/03/2026 22:36

@Woahbodyforrrrmthankyou! Were you nervous about bloods and scan? Feel like maybe I’m worrying a little too much glad your son is doing well <3

Yes I was really nervous about the bloods and scan @EMG1998 I had almost convinced myself it would be the worst case. The good thing about an ultrasound is that they told me the outcome there and then so I relaxed a bit then while waiting for the blood results.

As he’s got older, they don’t swell as often as they used to and when they do, they disappear much quicker than they used to.

I really hope you don’t have to wait too long for the bloods and all goes well!

DD ( now 22) had one when she was 1. I noticed it when she turned her neck . It was towards the back on one side. GP said it wasn’t anything to worry about. It was rubbery and moved under my fingers. Eventually it either went or she grew and it was less noticeable. She did have eczema on her face so maybe something g to do with that. Now I work in primary school I see them all the time so obviously very common.

Justamuma · 22/03/2026 06:12

@EMG1998My DD had her blood tests on Wednesday and all has come back fine. We haven't had the follow up with the GP yet as to whether they will do anything further (I doubt it) but I'm so relieved all the blood tests are fine! Has your little one had theirs yet? X

Kirbert2 · 22/03/2026 06:26

Very common. I wouldn't worry, especially with no other symptoms.

G5000 · 22/03/2026 06:40

My son has 2 big lymph nodes not on the neck but rather under the jaw. His bloods were absolutely fine, no sign of current or recent infection. He is otherwise also perfectly fine.
But we were also sent for ultrasound and one of the lymph nodes is inflamed. So he is now on antibiotics for 10 days to see if those help. Oddly the bigger node seems fine and is shrinking.

Yay I am pleased for you! Ours went okay too mine had a nasty cold with thick green snot (lush) so his white blood cells came back elevated which is apparently normal when unwell but a little confusing!

My DD has had this for probably about 2 years... we took her for a scan as she was referred by the GP. They said it was fine just a normal lymph node which put my mind at rest. Comes right up when she’s poorly. When she turns her head it looks huge! She was poorly with a fever a few months back and I noticed it seemed massive again. I’ve stopped looking now 😂 has your little one had their scan yet?

Hey!! So we have had bloods back which were ok just a bit elevated white blood / inflammatory cells which was put down to his bad cold. I think it’s a bit of a watching game now to see if they get smaller although it’s driving me mad.…ours are massive too!
