Worried about PANS

Dd is 3. We were on holiday this week abroad and she became ill in the night. Very high fever started around midnight and vomited around 2am. We could not get any calpol into her - she was so distressed. She had what appeared to be a night terror too (screaming crying but not with it).

first thing we called the hotel dr and they did a suppository which thankfully brought temp down and we managed it from there. She had a nose and throat swab - which came back negative for infections.

Fever lasted about 36 hours managed by calpol and nurofen after the initial fist 8 hours or so when she became ill and vomited.

Sonce then DD has been herself, although has seemed out of sorts. She has had approx one enormous tantrum a day which is out of character for her. During these tantrums there is no getting through to her. They last about 15 mins thrashing and crying. Sometimes accompanied by a weird coughing noise. She has also randomly started gagging on her dummy a bit.

Obviousy I know no one can really help me here but I wanted to write it down to see if anyone thinks I should pursue further advice.

Part of me thinks she's 3 and has travelled internationally and been ill - of course tantrums will be expected.
but at the same time these behaviours seem to have started since our holiday and seem out of character so my mind is racing about it.
she is well in herself now so don't want to waste a drs time.

I doubt it's PANS.
As you say, she's been through a lot recently. She's probably knackered

how long has this been going on?

Thatsabignoise · 19/02/2026 19:19

She became ill Saturday night and fever went by lunch time Monday. We flew home yesterday (Wednesday).

She's ill and tired.
I'm surprised you are even thinking about PANS when this has been over such a short period of time
