Stomach bug or coughing vomit?

DD2 (17 months) last night was coughing - she’s had a nasty cough for a few days and a streaming nose. After a few coughs she then stirred again so I went in and she had been sick everywhere. Got her changed and bathed during which time she was fine and playing and wanted me to read her a book and gave her some water - about 10 minutes later she gagged again a few times and nothing really came out. She then went back to sleep all night. Fine this morning, has kept food and drink down, playing normally etc. she’s always been a reflux-y and sicky but something about the second gagging thing made me think this was a bug vs the usual coughing sick after I gave her the water.

as an emetophobe just trying to work out how much to brace myself for as at home today with her and DD1 🙈. Does this sound like a typical episode of coughing and vomiting? Or more like a bug?

Hi Op, both my two have/ have had this when they have a runny nose/cold. My eldest is 5 and has grown out of it thankfully but youngest is 2 and we have to brace ourselves every time he goes to bed with a a runny nose because it always almost ends in vomiting not always after coughing either. I think its from the post nasal drip. Hope your little one is ok now.

Thank you so much for replying ❤️ I did think this originally but the second bout of retching made me think otherwise though according to chat gpt water can trigger vomiting from any cause if the stomach is sensitive. Hoping everyone stays well tonight 🤞

I think it sounds more like your kid had swallowed more catarrh then her tummy could deal with and threw it up. I think she'd have been sick more over a longer period if she had a bug.
