Ear Pain following Tonsilectomy

Hello everyone,

My little one had a tonsillectomy last week and has had horrific ear pain. I know can happen to the ears and the tonsils sharing the same nerve pathways but i just cannot keep on top of their pain with regular calpol and ibuprofen so I am sat in A&E waiting to have them checked out.

Has anyone had any experience of this? was there any additional treatment/ medication available?
we have tried head pads with some comfort but its not enough.
How long did it last?
for context child is 5 and had an autism diagnosis but is verbal and can communicate what is wrong when upset.

Thank you in advance

Sorry to hear your little one is in pain. My daughter had a tonsillectomy and adenoids out and grommets in a year ago. She was in so much pain that she wouldn’t sleep and calpol and ibuprofen weren’t touching it, even though we kept up with the doses. I contacted the ENT ward and they prescribed morphine for her. There were only 5 doses of morphine in the bottle so I gave her one each night and it really took the edge off for her. You have my sympathies, it was a tough few weeks!
