does anyone know what this rash might be? It came up yesterday and today it has seemed to open and get infected.

It looks to be infected. You need to see a doctor for antibiotics.

Coffeeishot · 18/01/2026 21:16

You need to see a gp tomorrow it looks infected, have you put anything on it,

Coffeeishot · 18/01/2026 21:17

You can wash it with cooled boiled water and some cotton wool

TheDenimScroller · 18/01/2026 21:38

I have been washing it with cool boiled water and drying it well. Also have put a thin layer of dermol on it.

Gp might give you something else,it is maybe a bit of baby dermatitis that has flared up.

Barrellturn · 18/01/2026 21:45

Looks a bit fungal

2026willbebetter · 18/01/2026 21:45

That looks really sore. You need to go to gp. I wonder if it’s fungal.

Coffeeishot · 18/01/2026 21:45

Or impetiago.

GrooveArmada · 18/01/2026 21:45

Possible eczema, it's a common spot - but it looks very irritated, I agree I'd see a GP as it may be the case the skin got infected after it broke.

GrooveArmada · 18/01/2026 21:48

Or yes, could be start of impetigo - could be caused by Strep A. Any other symptoms your baby is poorly? Any patches anywhere else or rash? Sore throat? Fever? Unsettled? Watch out for those symptoms and make sure your GP checks your baby's throat properly. Impetigo could be really nasty and it can spread so don't rub creams over your baby's skin right now.

Keep an eye on it tonight in case you need an A&E trip, otherwise try for a GP appointment tomorrow morning. Our toddler got infected eczema on the back of his knees last year that ended up spreading quite rapidly all over his body overnight and we ended up with a hospital stay for a couple of nights while he was on antibiotics. Not trying to scare you but I had no idea before that happened that you could end up in hospital with eczema! Hopefully it will clear up for you in the next couple of days with some cream from the GP 🙏
