Teen 3 week migraine

Exactly this. My 13yr old son has had migraines for a couple of years. I've posted on here before about pizotifen. He has sumatriptan nasal spray and pizotifen. It's not helping as much as we'd hoped. He's definitely not as sick as he was before, but his migraines have changed and are lasting up to 3 weeks. Ibuprofen and paracetamol take it off a little bit (tens machine helps a bit. It's not to the point where he's laid in a dark room in silence. Since increasing pizotifen to 1.5mg he's aso having dizzy spells. He's just in bed watching tv, no school/social life etc. He's getting quite down about it all.
Sorry for the long post!
Anyone else suffer like this?

Have you thought about food triggers? Eg chocolate, hard cheese, eggs (that’s mine). Also, migraine can’t be that bed if he is watching tv. Maybe the painkillers Are causing the pain? This is quite common and sometimes you have to go cold turkey.

I did say it's not to the point where he had to lay in a dark room, but he is still in pain! The consultant thinks it's hormonal rather than food triggers. I did ask about otc pain relief and they said so long as he doesn't take more than the recommended dose, he can carry on.

Has he had his bloods checked? Hormonal imbalances, low iron and low vit D can all be causes.
he should keep a diary if he isn’t already - more than 15 days a month is classed as chronic and he should be referred to neurology for more investigations.

Meant to say low iron and vit D also make me very dizzy alongside the migraines

@chickadont he hasn't had a blood test, I'll ask about this. He has been seeing a neurologist and had an mri, so a blood test would be good. I'll chase up a hospital appointment. Thank you for that info
