Phimosis cream

My 9 year old son has phimosis quite badly. We went to the GP last week (who didn't examine him and just took my word for it) and I said I'd heard that steroid cream was the first line treatment.

He prescribed clotrimazole, which is an anti fungal cream (I didn't realise until we'd filled the prescription and got home and opened the bag) and he said to use it 3 times a day for a month and if there is no improvement he would refer for circumcision.

However, I've not read anything anywhere about anti fungal cream being used as a first line treatment. Do we need to go back and change creams to a steroid? I don't want to use this cream for a month that was never going to work anyway. Thanks all.

I would see a different GP. That one sounds completely inadequate.

Thank you, I thought that too. I will take him back

Should be a steroid cream for this.

Just an update. I went back to the doctor to ask for steroid cream and we were told to try the anti fungal for 2 weeks and then the steroid for 2 weeks. Neither made a difference. We have since seen the urologist who said that his phimosis is so bad that the cream would never work and my son is booked in for a circumcision in a couple of weeks
