Ear infection and tonsillitis together

My daughter was prescribed 10 days of penicillin for tonsillitis (confirmed as strep with swab) and ear infection at the same time. Her throat seems lots better on day 9 of antibiotics and white spots have gone. She keeps complaining about her ears still and saying her ears are itchy. Could the antibiotics work for the throat but not the ears? I was wondering if anyone has had this before?

The ear infection could be resistant to the penicillin. (This happens to my DC-confirmed with swab). Is it an ear infection with oozing discharge, and did they swab it? Or is it just sore and red? could it be viral?

The swab was done on the tonsils. So far I haven’t seen any discharge coming from the ear
