2yr old sprained ankle

Toddler fell of a swing over a week ago and hurt her ankle, screamed when she done it. Took her to a&e as she couldn't walk on it, they done xray, nothing showed and said likely to be a sprain. Since she has started limping on it, keeping the injured foot flat and not bending the ankle. The last 3 days, in the evenings it seems to really swell up and she switches to crawling. I can rotate the ankle but she is hesitant and tries to keep it stiff. Is this normal for a sprain? Im worried she's walking on it and seems to be making it worse

I'd take her back. Fractures don't always show up on initial x-rays of young children/toddlers. If she is limping and not wanting to bear weight then I'd want to get it checked out again.

Swelling can impact the accuracy of an initial x-ray so definitely take her back for another

take her back. My 2year old was limping and Choosing to crawl over walking. Took them back and the xray showed a fracture! Breaks don’t always present the same way in children. Good luck and please report back if you can.

Take her back for peace of mind however I sprained my ankle last year while heavily pregnant and it still gives me aggro now I couldn't walk properly on it for weeks . Sprains can take a long time to heal fully

Thanks all, took her back, they didn't do another x-ray but touched all the bones in her foot and she didn't flint, just was a bit hesitant. Said again that likely just s sprain and to keep her foot rested.. hard wit a toddler!!

Can you wrap it in an elastic bandage to take the pressure off of it.
