30+ week wait for an ‘urgent’ appointment?

At my LO’s 8 week check, a referral to children’s orthopaedics was completed for a clunking hip. This was done as urgent back in November. Chasing the appointment today and I’ve been advised that the referral has been accepted but the specialist we need to see doesn’t work often so their ‘urgent’ wait list is 30 weeks. GP & health visitor have chased but were no further. After having the fear put in me about developmental hip dysplasia and how LO needs to be seen and treatment started before 6 months if they do have DDH, I’m now at a complete loss. Advice on where else to turn to expedite the referral would be greatly appreciated as LO will be nearly 1 before they’re seen and by that point, could potentially need a hip operation as treatment is delayed. X

Contact PALS.

You have a right to request a referral to a different specialist and insist on it.
You may have to travel further but I am sure that's not an issue.

Thank you!! I’ve completed another online form for my GP to request this. Receptionist has phoned and advised that a telephone call will happen but ‘she isn’t sure what the doctor can do’. Travel is not a problem at all as it can prevent an unnecessary operation that can be prevented with a brace 😐
