Newborn & pooping

Hi,

My baby is 3 weeks old and doesn’t seem to have a regular poop cycle. She’s formula fed and at first she was having 2-3 poos a day but the past 10 days or so she’s only pooing every 2-3 days. Health visitor is saying this is normal but she seems uncomfortable and always seems to be pushing. We’ve tried bicycle legs, tummy massages etc and nothing seems to help. She has infacol with every bottle. When she does poo it looks how it’s meant to so apparently that means she’s not constipated 🤷🏻‍♀️ we’ve read about infant dyschezia. It sounds very similar to her we’re just at a loss of what to do to help her go.

Thank you 🙏

It can be common as your HV says. Are there any other symptoms? Is she uncomfortable after every feed/eczema/sniffly nose? If you’re not happy I’d give the HV another shout. Or you could try a comfort formula for colic & constipation. Most brands have one.

My first who was formula fed used to go every 5 days and when it started I was amazed by how much came out. He was also on infacol. He used to need a big feed and a sleep after the effort. I tried changing his milk and he was more regular on a different milk. He started on aptimil (every 5 days) and moved to hypp which seemed to suit him much better
