Red and swollen big toes over a month after part of toenail removal

Ds2 is 17. Had ingrown toenails on both big toes Summer 2024. He had 3x antibiotics which didn't work, then a referral to hospital. Paediatrician said he needed part of both toenails removed and it would be 2 months wait. She said he didn't need antibiotics unless the redness and swelling started going up his foot. 11 months later he had the operation and they said he could go back to running when the redness and swelling had gone down.

It's been 6 weeks. Toes are still red and swollen. Both big toes are overlapping the next toe as they are so much bigger than normal. Ds feels no pain but his pain threshold is really high. He's desperate to go back to running. Should I take him back to GP? I really thought it would be better by now.

Yep, I’d take him back.
Back in the good old days you often had a 6 week post op check up.

Thank you. Finally got through to the gp surgery (took an hour and a half) and all appointments gone so have to ring back on Friday morning.
