Son (13) has had a fever from monday. GP sent him to A&E on monday with stiff neck, dizzy and fever of 40. All tests ok but throat/ears a bit red so said likely viral. He is still spiking a fever of 38.5+ every time calpol wears off, so this is 3 days of it. He says his throat is on fire and coughing a lot now and still dizzy at times. Just wondering at this point does he need to go back to GP for antibiotics? He has ASD and bad health anxiety so he is quite upset by it all

Is he drinking and weeing?

You can always see the GP again but it’a viral then antibotics won’t help.

Have you tried a throat numbing spray from over the counter if he will tolerate it?

he may need his throat re examining. GP would review him, Give them a call

Have you tried ibuprofen for his temp? I find it much more effective than calpol for treating a fever

Thanks everyone. Going to call again as his temperature is 39.5 again this morning. We cant give nurophen as he has kidney issues so been working calpol every 4 hours since Monday. He has ASD and health anxiety so is really struggling. I will also get some throat spray this morning

Poor kid. Yes if calpol isn’t controlling it then definitely get him seen again
