Hi there,
my DS was seen today my the GP and was prescribed a 5 day course of antibiotics as there was crackle sounds in his chest. His oxygen sats on the oximeter were sitting at 94. I didn’t think much of it in the appointment but after coming home I’m now doubting if that is within an ok range giving the fact he isn’t feeling his best. I always thought anything over 95 was safe and now I’m kicking myself for not questioning the lowness of his sats. Please can someone help me out of my misery and reassure me that this is Infact ok. Thankssss!!

Also. May I add there is no tracheal tug or any recessions at his ribs and also no fever either. I’m probably just being over paranoid…right?

How cold were his hands when the reading was taken?

It may have been a spurious reading

Also what age is your son and does he have asthma?

Cxxx2 · 09/12/2025 13:31

Hello, they were relatively warm. He’ll be 4 in January and there’s been no mention of asthma. He has had antibiotics about 2 weeks ago for the same symptoms but his oxygen levels were 97/98 then so predominantly good given how unwell he seemed.

Hmm I would keep a close eye on him (which no doubt you are doing).

94 is fine especially if has chest infection, anything below 92 is when doctors would be be concerned
