2 Year Old High Temp since Friday

My dd started getting a fever on Friday around 39 and 40. She’s really unwell in herself most of the time. Has had the odd period of doing some playing but not a lot. She’s barely eating as well and has slept most of today, not really talking a lot eithe. I’ve taken her to the GP twice and they’ve both said viral. The second did prescribe antibiotics because was concerned she wasn’t getting better so she started on them today. I thought her temp had gone down this evening but I’ve just checked it while she’s asleep and it’s 39.7. I’m just so worried now.

It's doing the rounds. Does eventually pass after about a week (the temp at least) but she'll still feel like utter crap for a while after that. We're on our second week with it.

Hi! Just to reassure you I think there is a lot of bad viruses going around at the moment.

My son has had a temperature for the last 7 days. Barely eaten, cough, cold, has the chills. just slept, been completely miserable and watched TV.

Took him to the doctors on day 5 as I was worried it had been going on for so long- they said it was just viral. And today, day 8, he has finally perked up and is much more like his normal self!

Obviously look out for signs it’s getting worse and take her back to the GP if you are worried but there are some very nasty bugs going around!

Currently going through this in our house too. Fever seemed to subside for a day and came back with a vengeance overnight, a visit to the gp said viral and to let it run its course. Doesn’t help my stress and anxiety levels tho!

We've all recently had this horrible flu going round (myself and DD1 4.5ys did home swabs which confirmed it, DD2 20m didnt have a swab but the presumption has been it was the same bug). For all of us, we found ibuprofen / baby ibuprofen to be much more effective than calpol / paracetamol for the temps. We were all really ill for a week, perked up a bit, then crashed again before recovering over the next week. Annoyingly, we all had it a week before our flu vaccines were supposed to happen! If you are worried, obviously go back to the GP / 111, but if you've only been trying calpol, then id see if some ibuprofen makes a difference.

@HelloDarknessmyoldfrenemy and @Sillysoggyspaniel thank you for replying, that does reassure me. I’ve never seen her so poorly, it’s awful.
@Antihistamine62 i hope your dc recovers soon, horrible isn’t it.
thanks @DeliciouslyBaked glad you are all on the mend. I should have mentioned I am doing ibuprofen too, I think it does help the fever more.

Children shouldn’t still have a temp after 5 days if it’s viral. Had a urine sample been taken? Lots of young girls are prone to water infections (they don’t necessary have pain with it) but needs to be checked

thank you, I’ll ask the doctor to see if they can do a test tomorrow. She’s on antibiotics now anyway, so hopefully that would help if it was this.

Keep her on the antibiotics, they will need about 24h to start working so see how she is in the morning.
If she is no better after 48h on them call the GP
back.
If it is bacterial the antibiotics should be working by then, and if viral I would expect improvement in another couple of days.
