Hi, this is my first time posting here I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced the same as me as im just so worried about my son.

so basically my youngest son was at school last week and I got a phone call to collect him as he was spiking a temp and didn’t seem himself, I went straight away and he came home had medicine and perked up he had a temp for the next 3 days and then he was back to his normal self. My eldest son had started to come down with this on the Tuesday which I expected. He spiked temps in the night said he felt sick and even was sick but only a little I wouldn’t have said it was a sickness bug as he was hardly sick and only ever felt sick, he also complained of headache so I took him to the drs as he seemed off they checked him and said viral nothing out of the ordinary just let it run its course so I did. Fast forward to Sunday he still wasn’t right and I couldn’t settle feeling like I’m missing something still spiking temps so I got a late app with dr at my local A&E, again drs said everything looks normal but he said because his temp is still carrying on he prescribed me antibiotics to collect the following Monday.

we went back home and he spiked a temp again in the night so I wanted to see my original dr who I saw first time she always see’s my boys and I always trust her judgment. She checked him over again and said the same thing can’t really see anything out of ordinary and she’s happy for him to start antibiotics

but my son had started to perk up at this point he was playing with his toys and seemed himself but then at night spike this awful temp again. So now we are on Tuesday still off school and we started antibiotics early hours I’m praying no temp comes tonight but if it does that will have been 8 days with a temp I’ve never known it has anyone else had this problem ?

Thankyou sorry for the long story

Probably what happened is the virus your younger son brought home transferred to your older son, it has then progressed into a bacterial infection, which is why his temperature has stayed elevated and why the doctor has prescribed antibiotics.

The temperature should come down as the antibiotics fight the infection, but make sure you finish the whole course, and if you're worried or he seems to be getting worse you can always call 111 for advice. Hope he is feeling better soon.

Yeah well that’s what I assumed but for him to be seen 3 times by a dr and for them to still not see anything that stood out to them for it to be a bacterial infection is what’s concerning me if they turned around to me and said it’s something in particular I wouldn’t be concerned, but nothing he’s eating well and drinking well and seems himself now but still this temp keeps on coming back? Hopefully these antibiotics do the job and they go.

and thankyou xx

Did they dip test his urine?

Boymamma67 · 25/11/2025 16:49

No they haven’t they didn’t even question his urine? But I do have antibiotics now so if it is that it will take it away wont it. xx

Not necessarily depends on the bacteria. If the temp continues tomorrow I think I’d get his urine dipped at the least.

Thankyou that is what I will do be doing

My toddler had six full days of fevers last week, passed it to their dad and honestly it's the most ill I've ever seen my partner. He said he felt very tired and also sick, but coughing and fever were the main symptoms. I'm convinced it was viral. Fortunately my toddler is now well again and DP is improving.

My DD 12 became poorly 2 weeks ago.
An awful virus / flu.

She had a temperature for 11 days, and only, this evening has she decided that she is feeling properly better.

There are some horrible bugs around at the moment

(When GP saw her on what was day 5 (Monday) (NHS 111 became full on day 3 when I became concerned that even with meds i could not get her temp to drop below 39.5), he immediately said she wouldnt be is school all week, and he was correct.)
