Swimming with a cold

Looking for advice - please no nasty comments, first time mum here!!

My baby is 12 weeks old and has today come out with a bit of a cough and a slightly snotty nose. She doesn’t have a temperature or a fever and generally seems fine in herself, perhaps a little bit fussy (usually very chill) and sleeping a bit more. She was also a bit more restless than usual overnight, waking twice when she usually only wakes once.

We usually go swimming on a Tuesday and due to meet friends with babies of a similar age on Wednesday, I mentioned to a friend that I didn’t think it was a good idea to take her swimming or meet the friends and my friend said I was being OTT and there is no reason why she can’t do those things as she doesn’t have a fever, just a bit snuffly. She also has her 12wk vaccinations tomorrow which I called the GP and they said as longs as no fever then fine for her to have.

Am I being OTT / over cautious or would you not be taking your 12 weeks old, snuffly baby swimming and to meet friends when she could make other babies sick? It’s been playing on my mind that I don’t want to wrap her in cotton wool but also don’t want to be making her any worse! Also not sure what the etiquette is with regards to these things, any words of wisdom appreciated!

I would go if she's well in herself. Mine have colds for pretty much six months straight over the winter.

If no fever, I’d crack on. They get snuffly for 1000 reasons and it’s better just to accept it as part of your life forever now and get on with things. If she seems really off and not herself and has a fever tomorrow, reconsider.

Trust your gut. Don’t feel pressured to do things if you really don’t want to.

Personally I wouldn't do any of it with a baby that age. Its not about wrapping them in cotton wool but I wouldn't want to risk passing on even a mild infection to ither babies. Especially so little. My 1 year old and 3 year old we crack on with snuffles but we didnt when they were really little.

I wouldn't. Don't let others pressure you - it's OK for different people to make different judgements on this kind of thing.
