Hi all, looking for advice.

Ny 2 year old has been unwell all week, cough, runny nose, temperature on and off and sleeping more than normal. On Friday we took her to the GP as her temp peaked and she’d been unwell for 4-5 days and we were worried. He diagnosed tonsillitis but I wasn’t convinced, gave her penicillin and she seemed to peak up yesterday.

But today, whilst still seeming better in herself, she’s got a rash and I’m unsure if it could be a reaction or measles?

She’s very sleepy today but other than that and the rash she’s okay.

I’m worried as I’m 29 weeks pregnant.

She had had her MMR.

I think you should phone 111 for advice. I’ve never seen a measles rash so can’t advise on that but being very sleepy isn’t a particularly good sign.

My baby had similar was ill for about week and then when she was at the end of it got a rash it was Roseola. She was very poorly but the rash was at the end. I’d get her checked just to be on the safe side though x

Dare I ask-is she vaccinated? Are you?

Op said clearly the child has had her mmr

Clearinguptheclutter · 16/11/2025 15:12

If she’s had the vacccine I’d say very unlikely mostly because there is hardly any of it about (thanks to the vaccine).

def looks like some kind of viral rash. If she has had pox previously it could be shingles. I’d probably call 111 for advice and call GP tomorrow.

Flupiness · 16/11/2025 15:13

Is she’s been vaccinated then it’s not Measles. Does the rash disappear when you press a glass on it? If so, it’s probably just a viral rash, very common in kids. But if you’re worried or you think she’s over sleepy call 111, always better to check.

muggart · 16/11/2025 15:18

rashes are common with viruses but you need to do the glass test to see if it’s the scary kind which can indicate sepsis or meningitis. let her get lots of rest in the meantime

HellsBellsTrudy · 16/11/2025 15:26

Both vaccinated yes.

Thanks all, I’ve called 111 and a doctor is going to give us a call back. She was very hard to wake from her nap but seems herself now.

Don’t like the look of the rash but did see about post viral so hopefully it’s just that.

Unlikely to be measles unless she's been in contact with a case, I agree.

Shingles normally spreads in a line/patch as it reactivates from a single nerve on the back. This doesn't look right for shingles or chickenpox. Could be roseola as others said.

Could also be a reaction to the penicillin after Epstein-Barr virus infection (glandular fever!). Littles are normally fine if they catch EBV (although it can lead to tonsillitis), but it's well known in teenagers that giving penicillin if someone has EBV can cause a rash - it's a really well known side effect.

@HellsBellsTrudy how is your little one and what did 111 say?

i’m going through exactly the same and waiting for 8am to call the doctor. My daughter is 2 and is so unwell and think it’s measles (has every symptom and went to bed with one singular spot like mark on her face)

I have a 6 week old at home so feeling low key stressed haha.

HellsBellsTrudy · 19/11/2025 11:17

Hi @Bingbong9009 sorry you’re having a hard time!
She perked up pretty quickly and when I spoke to the doctor they said that her rash was probably a viral rash which they can get at this age when they’re recovering from a bug, I had a google and it looked the same.

Hope your little one is doing okay!
