My 5 year old daughter has bitten her tongue really badly today. We went to A&E but was sent home. I wondered if anyone has had a similar experience. Shes not drinking or eating and cant really talk. Im wondering to go back again tomorrow to get a 2nd opinion

Poor little lass. Is she able to drink with a straw?
I had a small tumour on my tongue and it had to be surgically removed ... they cut my tongue from one side to the other. The most remarkable thing was how quickly it healed so I am sure your DD will be better very soon.

It will heal remarkably quickly. I bet it looks significantly better in 24 hours.

Would she have some ice cream or lolly. Might help reduce any swelling.

Tongues heal remarkably fast. See how she is tomorrow.
Straws/ice cubes might be tolerable.
I bit my clean through on one side as a child, was largely ok within a couple of days

Mine has done it quite a few times. They do heal very quickly.

My daughter bit right through her tongue at about the same age- it was split like a snake's tongue. The walk in centre told me there was nothing to be done and that tongues heal very quickly because they have so many tiny blood vessels in them. I'm not sure I believed them ,but within 24 hours her tongue started to knit back together.Hopefully you'll find the same - see how she is tomorrow.

Thank you for all your messages. I have decided to leave it for now and see how it goes as she seems alot better today and is talking more although her speech isnt great with the tongue being cut. But she's drinking homemade smoothies and resting.
