My 3 year old is fine in himself, still his silly self, lots of energy, laughing, playing etc, however he has been sleeping lots and loss of appetite. Last night he took himself to bed at 3:30 in the afternoon and fell asleep, I tried to wake him up at 5 as we had a party to go to but he was so miserable. I got him dressed and he fell back to sleep so I decided to leave him. He has been a little under the weather (the general cold and cough) but nothing that’s affected how he has been. He slept from 3:30 in the afternoon until 7am this morning so that was 15.5 hours in total! Just made him breakfast and he isn’t eating any of it, the past few days his appetite hasn’t been the same and has been extremely fussy.

Could this be developmental, could a common cold cause this or should I get him to the doctors to be checked?

I’d get him to the doctors to be checked. That’s a long time to sleep, coupled with the appetite being down. It may well just be a virus but definitely better to be safe than sorry.
