Threadworm hell - please help!

My 9-year-old DS seems very prone to catching threadworms. He has always caught them at least 2-3 times a year ever since he was about 4 and started in nursery school. This year though we are having a particularly bad run; he seems to keep getting reinfected despite the medication and all the usual cleaning and changing towels and bedding etc. After a couple of reinfections over the summer, I decided to treat the the whole family every two weeks for about 8 weeks, which I did, hoping this would break the cycle. I stopped this about 6 weeks ago and lo and behold the repulsive things are back again!

What can I do? Usually I clean everything thoroughly, wash all bedding and towels and wash the kids bums in the morning for a good fews days after treatment. Do I actually have to clean the house top to bottom and wash all bedding etc every single day for two whole weeks as the internet suggests?! Any success stories out there? I can't take much more of this. 😫

Knickers or pants in bed and Vaseline around the anus. Keep nails short. This too shall pass.

@Timeforabitofpeace Thank you. I do the pants and nails but haven't tried the Vaseline, I shall give that a go. A couple of times a year I can handle but every 6 weeks is making me lose the will! Makes me feel so disgusting - he's given them to me several times over the years!

@HotToast
I’m guessing he’s catching them at school. Maybe there’s a parent who isn’t treating their child.
We had this problem when our DC were young and another child’s parents weren’t treating their child head lice. Exceptionally annoying.

@LeftBoobGoneRogue could be. Did you wash the bedding every day for two weeks with threadworms? That's what I'm curious about. This is what online sources say is necessary but it seems excessive. I tend to launder all the linen every few days for a couple of weeks, bum clean in the mornings for a week and do lots of cleaning but perhaps I should be boiling everything daily for a fortnight. Interested to know what other people do!

This may not be medically correct, however instead of waiting a whole 2 weeks to repeat course, do a treatment at start, 1 week and 2 weeks. Underwear needs to be boil washed or ironed. Vacuum mattresses. The linen does have to be hot washed more than every few days, especially on the days you can see live worms.
