7 year old with UTI

My 7 year old daughter started with symptoms of a UTI a couple of days ago. Lots of weeing and wet bed for the last 2 nights. I took her to the GP yesterday first thing, she had some signs on the urine dipstick test of an infection and they reluctantly prescribed antibiotics. She’s been taking them since yesterday morning and is absolutely no better at all. She is needing to wee constantly (every 30-60 mins).
She’s been a bit off her food but has eaten a good dinner tonight. I expected her to be getting better by now in terms of her weeing though.
any suggestions for something else that may be going on please?

Can she take ibuprofen? It helps with adult UTIs. The infection causes inflammation and that contributes to the symptoms.

Just checking that she’s not extra thirsty too? If so, it’s 2 of the signs of type 1 diabetes… just flagging as getting emergency treatment is crucial to prevent DKA (a life threatening complication)

Did the GP check for sugar and ketones? Also signs of diabetes.

see how it goes tomorrow but I’d be tempted to speak to GP if no improvement by lunchtime.

She did a urine test… just checked the NHS app and it says negative for ketones and glucose. DD is thirsty though. (assuming ketones and glucose would have been positive if diabetes??)

I’ve used some disposable bed mats tonight that are leftover from years ago as I cannot face the extreme laundry again tomorrow.

hadn’t thought to give her ibuprofen, so will give her some, thanks.

Another wet bed, frequent toilet trips and headache.
So frustrating as there’s only one more dose of the antibiotic left and she isn’t any better at all. I’ve also given ibuprofen as suggested by someone last night. Will have to decide whether to ring 111 I think.

How is your DD, @TreeCake? really hope she was seen and feeling better now, poor thing.

Can you ring the GP again? My daughter (5) has had two UTIs recently and both times they have sent the urine sample off for testing to ensure that the antibiotics match the infection - perhaps she is on the wrong ones as they should normally work very quickly.
