My 19 month old daughter has been having issues with eating. Specifically coughing and gagging on food to the point of being sick. I was initially dismissed by the GP but we have since seen a gastroenterologist and had a barium swallow test. Apart from being iron deficient all the tests came back normal. I also saw a speech and language therapist who noticed that she was mouth breathing and so they wrote to my GP to ask them to refer us to ENT. Unfortunately the GP didn’t action this and is was only when I took her to the GP a month later for a separate issue that they actually referred her as they looked at her throat and saw she had enlarged tonsils. They did say they didn’t know if her tonsils were always that large normally or whether they were bigger because she was unwell (fever and loose nappies).
It’s now a month later and the wait for an ENT appointment is 30 weeks. She’s doing better with food, still coughing and gagging but hasn’t been sick in a while. However I did manage to get a look at her tonsils the other day and they do seem large still.
I was just wondering if anyone had similar with their child and what treatment if any was given. I know they are not removing tonsils as often now. She does mouth breathe and her snoring is getting worse. I’ll add a very bad quality photo of her tonsils - it’s the best that I could get! Thank you.
