Tired Tv Land GIF by TV Land Classic

Hi All

Advice needed my LB is coming up to 9 months and since starting solid has been a endless cycle of on and off constipation!

He was never a poo every day kind of baby anyways would normally go 3 days or so or even sometimes up to a week before pooing but always would just have a big clear out and was never painful or hard ect.

I have of course taken him doctors and they prescribed him stuff to help and advised obviously loads of fiber, try give as much water as possible, even orange prune juice.
Tbh none of it really helps much, sometimes it can even take 2/3 days for the stuff prescribed to help and I always ensure he has plenty of fruit/veg water even orange juice ect.

But it's still not resolved - and even has started to effect his sleeping at night.
It's been 2 weeks since I've slept properly lol He is such a happy lively baby during the day, he doesn't stop moving about and even that doesnt seem to get things going!

I will be contacting the doctors again as its not fair on him and he shouldn't have to take something all the time just to poo. (I will defo be asking for further investigation as I'm not going to just accept its just constipation if the methods told havent really resolved the problem) everytime I try find some information or advice I get if more then 3 days must call doctors.

Any advice? Has this happend to anyone else? Can this go on for months whilst baby is still getting used to solids? Is this normal? Help pls

Let me know!!

Thanks!

See your GP adap. They will prob prescribe lactolose. Forgive my spelling. You give it twice a day and will soften his poo.

What have you tried? The gold standard to treat constipation is movicol/laxido. It’s also worth looking at the Eric website for advice.

Have you tried the prune puree pouches? A few tsp of those were highly effective for my guys
Feel your stress as its awful when you just want them to go

I had this when mine started solids. GP suggested Lactulose until regular again, then a half tea spoon dose for a week to keep pooing comfortable. We were then much better about giving prune puree every day (in yoghurt or porridge) and really encouraging water when every meal. You have to keep on top of it.

I sympathise OP, we had exactly this with DC and it took a while and fair few visits to get doctors to take it seriously. At its worst, they’d do one poo a week, screaming in agony for up to 20 minutes trying to get it out and bleeding afterwards.

We got somewhere with movicol and prune pouches but DC was still so distressed with it so ended up doing the movicol disimpaction regime. I think we only lasted a few days because it was hell but it seemed to do the trick. We are still doing maintenance doses of movicol and DC is over 2 yo now so no idea how long we’ll have to do it for.

Keep pushing, keep a diary and any photographic evidence you might need to demonstrate the issue.

Did you change formula when he moved to solids?

I nannied a little boy who had a huge issue - until he came off formula when it all cleared up.
