Hi I was wondering if anyone has any similar stories, my baby's boys head was 36.5cm between the 75th and the 91st percentile born. He is now 7 weeks and it is measuring 42 cm which is now on the 99th percentile. He is getting referred to see a pedestrian. Has anyone been through similar? Should I wait long for appointment? I am really panicking and feel i should take him to A&E but he doesn't have any other symptoms. Thanks

Yes I had this with my LO, jumping multiple centiles from birth.

First of all, it turned out fine. Big heads run in both sides of the family.

Second, has the GP/health visitor told you any red flags to watch out for? At 5.5 months my baby caught COVID, which caused projectile vomiting. We ended up in A&E, once they realised it was COVID we were sent home. We did see a paediatrician in A&E but it didn't speed up getting to a specialist.

When we finally saw the specialist paediatrician (a neurologist) he said it was nice to see a perfectly healthy baby for a change and discharged us. My baby's weight and height had gradually caught up to head circumference and the head growth leveled off.

At 17 months, we have to size up in hats! But all is well. So take the advice from your GP/HV but also be aware that most babies with big heads... Have big heads.

Mine jumped centile lines in the first 8 weeks for head size but started off really small- below 2nd centile i wondered if it was because both my children engaged very early so the head didn’t grow much or maybe its true the baby doesn’t grow bigger that you can get out. Anyway my 2nd was born at 8lb with a below 2nd centile head and went up to around 50th centile head by 8 weeks so it was really the case of the head catching up- hopefully it will be something similar for you.
