We started potty training my 2.5 year old at the end of August. Things were going well until she went back to nursery. She went 3 days without pooing. We resolved the constipation naturally through prunes, juice smoothies etc. We realised the constipation was because she wanted total privacy so nursery put a potty in a cubicle for her and this seemed to resolve things. Then at the end of last week she was going for a wee and would push as if she needed a poo but only a small piece would come out. At this point I didn’t know if she was getting confused between the urge to wee and urge to poo sensations because the small piece that would come out wasn’t hard like constipation. Over the weekend she had diarrheoa and assumed she had caught a tummy bug. But then today she did a really large poo that was very difficult to pass. But actually wasn’t hard or lumpy like you would expect constipation to be. But I did start to wonder if the diarrhoea was actually leakage around this constipation.
Anyway we went to the doctors, they said it was very common and they also thought the diarrhoea was leakage. However the doctor said that her tummy was soft and he could hear her bowels working well.
He did give us a prescription for cosmocol and said it was for disempaction but he has only given her two sachets one for today and one for tomorrow.
After reading the leaflet the dosage doesn’t seem correct. Do you think the doctor has given her a low dose as a just in case as the diarrhoea could have been a bug and she doesn’t need disempacting and also as she had already passed a large poo today.
