What could be wrong with 12 year old DD?

I have made an appointment with our GP but it’s not until 2 weeks today and I’m getting quite concerned.

For the past month or so she has been complaining of ‘fluttering’ feelings in her stomach and shaking/trembling lower arms and hands. Also feels cold quite often but not all the time. There was one case when it was her legs trembling rather than her arms.

She says she doesn’t feel ill but also doesn’t feel quite ‘right’ and the sense of feeling ‘crappy’ comes and goes.

She is a normal weight, quite tall and sporty, doesn’t look particularly pale or anything. She started taking a multi vitamin last week but probably hasn’t been long enough for that to make any difference.

I’m wondering if it’s low blood sugar or similar but don’t have the equipment or understanding to test for that myself.

Any suggestions?

It may be anxiety?

ComfortFoodCafe · 15/09/2025 13:43

Anxiety? You can buy a glucometer & test strips from a pharmacy for around £30.

Check her blood pressure as well, hormonal changes around puberty can affect all sorts of other ‘processes’ that have worked fine up to that point. BP monitors are not expensive and are handy to have around anyway

I get fluttery feelings in my stomach and trembling in my hands and legs, are they worse at night? Mine is an indication my iron levels are low again, I also get really cold and feel crappy when they drop.
Is she vegetarian? Does she have heavy periods?
I wouldn't be happy waiting two weeks for a gp appointment for a child

Vitamin deficiency? Post viral?

Anaemia caused by periods maybe? Or blood sugar/pressure.
