When did your baby crawl?

my baby boy will be 8 months old in a few days. For the last month of so he’s constantly getting himself into a crawling position, often into a high plank too, he rocks back and forth and then just either pushes backwards or flips down. He doesn’t seem any closer to moving forwards but he gets soooo frustrated. I’ve tried to encourage him but I think it just makes him more annoyed. Do I try encourage with toys or just leave him to work it out eventually??

The week before he was one. And just shot off like he'd been doing it for ages - and he hadn't rolled to get places, bum shuffled or commando crawled. Don't stress about it

Mine pulled himself along on his tummy with his hands at 5 months and was properly crawling everywhere and pulling up on furniture by 6 months. He walked at 9 months. My friend’s daughter never crawled at all and didn’t start to walk until the week after she turned 18 months.

They’ve both just done their GCSEs and are in sixth form now. Is my son and genius and does her child have SEN? No. Did her daughter have physical problems after this? No. Did my son become an absolute specimen of physical prowess? Also no. They’re both lovely, average kids. They all do things in their own time and most of the time it has little bearing on their future, I promise. There are red flags for signs of disability or other issues and they’re usually quite easily picked up on by family or a health visitor or doctor. Honestly, he sounds right on track - he’ll work it out within a few weeks (and you’ll be tearing your hair out because he’ll suddenly be able to get to places that you’d really rather he couldn’t get to 😬).

Ten and a half months. Walked six weeks later.

Thank you all. It’s so hard to remember not to compare as it varies so much - my first born was off crawling by 6 months,

First one never crawled, walked at 10 months but I didn't ever actually see him crawl til after he was two! Second one bum shuffled around 8 months, sort of crawled a bit after he turned 1, and then walked at 14 months. They are all different, definitely don't worry, he'll find his way

Mine was not remotely interested in crawling, hated being on his tummy and didn’t ever really roll either! He started crawling at 11 months without any intervention from me, I just let him do what he wanted, and didn’t walk until 17 months. Now at 21 months his nursery tells me he’s the fastest one in the group and they can’t keep up with him 😂 so they do catch up in their own time at their own pace!

All three of my boys started crawling between 8 and 8.5 months. They all went backwards first, which frustrated them. I used to stack a tower of cups in front of them, which encouraged them to work out how to go forward so that they could knock it down.

They all walked at different ages: 10 months, 11 months and the eldest at around the time of his first birthday.

He was 8 months, walked at 15 months.

I never crawled - according to my mum I just sat on my bum and didn't move until one day around my first birthday I just got up and walked 😂
