I’m so sorry you’re going through this, you must be out of your mind with worry. Hopefully the tests will rule out cancer and shed light on what’s going on, have they suggested anything else it could be? I hope you hear back from them soon, the unknown is hard and your mind will wander to all kinds of scenarios, try not to let it until you have some answers. I know that’s easier said than done. In the meantime it might help to think of questions you want to ask the team who will be looking after your DS or sit and chat with him about what he’d like to ask? Sometimes going into appointments there are so many things you want to talk about/get told that it can be overwhelming, taking some notes may help you to reference back to may help? Be kind to yourselves. Sending a hug x

My post must have sent at the same time as yours. So sorry to hear this, hopefully a&e can push things through faster for him this evening and you get answers quickly.

He had an emergency endoscopy and colonoscopy, a CT scan and an ultrasound today. They have said they don't know why his oesophagus is so swollen and angry. They have taken biopsies and the results will be back in a few days. While he was a sleep they have inserted a feeding tube which has been causing him to gag on most of the day. No sick tho cause they gave him a something to stop him being able to be sick. His bum is very swollen and puffy

I would be thinking of crohns disease rather than cancer as it can affect the whole GI tract. Not that Crohn's is an easy ride. You must be so worried. Hope you get answers soon.

MummyN1 · 11/09/2025 18:55

TY, they have never mentioned Crohn's. The GP is the one who mentioned cancer. We thought maybe it was just acid reflux caused by the stress of the father-in-law's passing away 2 months ago. Whatever this is, we are devastated. Its caused him so much pain. we are devistaed trying to show a brave face for him and our daughter but its so so hard

I’m so sorry -
could it be coeliac? My cousin was so ill we thought she had cancer and also had a colonoscopy and endoscopy and she was coeliac- she lost an alarming amount of weight in a very short amount time. It can be triggered by trauma x

MummyN1 · 11/09/2025 19:47

I really dont know what it coudl be. He was never a big kid always sat on the boarder of min weight. He also wees so much so we are waiting for a bladder scan and passing wee test which should be tomrrow or the day after

I really feel for you. I hope your son is okay and makes a good recovery.

LavaLaamp · 12/09/2025 04:56

I would be extremely surprised if it was cancer at 14. Obviously it might be but as a gastro surgeon id be inclined to agree with crohns or ulcerative colitis as much more likely. Still absolutely shite but very much treatable

BlackSwan · 12/09/2025 18:36

I'm sorry your son is having such a dreadful time. You must be beside yourself with worry. I really hope you get some answers soon. Has he had symptoms for long or did this come on suddenly.
My son has had GI issues and it was explained that certain diagnoses can be very difficult to pin down.
A friend's child was diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis after lots of gagging episodes.

MummyN1 · 12/09/2025 21:14

Thank you for all the comments. They’ve put in a feeding tube today and keeping us in over the weekend. He collapsed today in the shower and they said his blood sugar was low

Try to take it one day at a time. Wishing you strength. x

WatchingTheDetective · 19/09/2025 08:14

How is your son, OP? I've been worried about him. I hope everything's okay.
