Toddler tic? Or eye / neurological issue?

Hi

Does anyone have experience of tics with their child?

my daughter is 3 and nursery noticed her ‘blinking a lot’ a few weeks ago. I took her for an eye test at boots but they were unable to complete it due to her age so have referred us to the eye hospital.

it seems to be getting worse and i’ve noticed it’s more of a cheek/eye twitch rather than blinking. Im now thinking it’s a tic? She recently left her nursery and this week started pre-school, so has been feeling worried.

any similar experiences or advice on how to manage it?

my rational brain is telling me this is a tic caused by stress but also worried in case im
missing something more worrying

My little boy at aged 3/4 used to blink a lot and also cough randomly . The Dr explained to us that it was a tic and it would be something he grows out of which he now has. He is five now . Hope your little one is okay ❤️ x

No worries @K122 i think tics can be common at that age . Hopefully something she will grow out of ❤️ xx

My DD did the same at 3, turned out that she needed glasses. The health centre/ clinic were able to do a child’s eye test (eg using pictures not letters) and issue a prescription. I got the appointment via ringing a health visitor for advice

Hi there! It stopped after a few months. I think it was caused by anxiety as she had just left her nursery and started pre-school. One of her teachers noticed it in the first few weeks and said it was a tic but it resolved after a few weeks of being at school, which is why I think it was caused by the worry of starting school? Im not sure really but haven’t noticed it since. I did get her eyes tested just in case and they were fine x

@K122 Thank you for the update, I really appreciate it.
Strangely, my sons has disappeared after two weeks again. This is now his second episode, 8 months apart, he's only 2.5 and I can't think of anything anxiety inducing as I've been on maternity leave for the past year with him and we've had no recent changes, other than dropping his nap, so potentially tiredness.

After the first episode (just as he turned 2) we took him to the opticians too and they said his eyesight was perfect.
