4 year old knee/ leg pain

My 4 year old for the last week has been complaining of knee/ leg pain, especially being in the car / getting out of the car. It's only one leg, I did think to begin with that it was growing pains but apparently this is only the case if it's in both legs. He does get extremely upset when it's hurting but then it suddenly eases off and he's absolutely fine until it happens again!

As it's only been a week since it's started we haven't yet made him a GP appointment. (We will do if it continues the next couple of days) but I'm wondering if anyone else's little one has had similar??

It might be worth putting something under his feet as a foot rest if the pain seems to strike after being in the car. However, whatever you use needs to either be a proper car footrest or needs to be thoroughly wedged so that there's no risk of it coming loose and moving on impact.

My daughter has a chronic issue with one of her feet and long journeys were setting it off so now I wedge her suitcase in for her to use as a footrest.

Aside from that, any sign of the knee being warm, red or swelling or if he gets a high temperature, get checked by a doctor.

My little one had on and off knee pain for a few days that turned out for be a septic arthritis. The bug that caused it was slow growing and that’s why it took a few days to really show it was something serious. By day 4/5 her knee was massively swollen, she was unwell and extremely upset. There was no redness or heat just very swollen. My advice is any swelling definitely get checked out x
