High ALP levels

Hi there,

I have very bad health anxiety especially when it comes to my children. My daughter had some blood tests regarding something completely different but her ALP (Serum alkaline phosphatase) has come back really high. Has anyone else been through this?

Hi, yes this happened to my daughter. She was 2 at the time and I’d taken her to hospital due to prolonged fevers. Bloods were all ok except for really high ALP (5000ish!)
The drs were unsure what could have caused that, so repeated in 3 weeks I think and they come down - they put it down to a virus.
do you know how high they are? Are they going to repeat?

A raised ALP level in children often indicates bone growth. If all the other liver bloods were in normal range I wouldn’t worry about it too much but suggest a repeat in a month or so.

Yes I’ve just remembered this now. They said it could be due to a growth spurt!
if it remained high their next step would have been a liver scan but as this poster has said, if any liver issues they’d expect other bloods to be off, not just one.

Oh how strange. Hers has come back at 1594 with adjusted calcium just slightly over normal range. We got appointment with paediatrics next week. X
