Best glasses for 6yo

6yo DS is a tall and stocky boy who is quite large all round. None of the children's frames in our local Specsavers fits him so he's been in women's frames, which strikes me as a bit ridiculous. He'd still like to have character frames of some sort - which optician can I go to? Anyone found a glasses brand with a wider selection of kids' glasses in larger frames?

Tomato glasses are a brand fully adjustable for lots of face shapes and widths. Not sure they have characters though like specsavers range does.

Yeah, you need one of the really flexible makes. DS is a similar build and went to an optician that we thought stocked Tomato. They actually didn’t but had a couple of pairs that are similarly flexible.

Have you tried Boots? they have a very wide range of frames and will be able to find something suitable.

And assuming it's myopia, I'd recommend asking about Stellest lenses which correct/stop progression. Very expensive though.

A friend with a 6 year old who has worn glasses since she was a baby swears by Tomato glasses.

I've had tomato glasses recommended for me for my daughter. She didn't need them in the end but the independent optician I was recommended to take her to was partially because they were great with kids but also because they stock these glasses. The person doing the recommendation had taken her daughter to 3 opticians and they found Specsavers had the poorest kids range of glasses.
It might be worth asking for local recommendations

Could you have a look on the arm of his current spectacles and find out the size?
Most character glasses only come in kids sizes.
Alternatively google "teen" glasses and see who has some in stock locally.

Thank you for the recommendation for Tomato - will take a look at Voots too
