2 year old won’t put weight on leg

My 2 year old hurt his leg on the trampoline on Saturday evening at bedtime. Cried hysterically and wouldn’t put weight on it, then fell asleep in the car on the way to A&E.
His lower leg was X-rayed and there was no sign of a break. He didn’t however wake up the whole time we were at hospital and as there were no signs of pain when he was examined, the doctor said that he would be fine and should be himself in a few days.

However, he still won’t put any weight on his leg and it collapses every time he tries, with lots of tears. He’s happy otherwise and sleeping well, just not using his left leg.

What would you do? Call 111 today? Wait for a GP appointment tomorrow? Give it another 48 hours?

Hi Op, I would take him back to A&E and explain what is happening - something is not right if he is collapsing when trying to use it. Ask them to re-x ray in case a break was missed

Yes I'd take him back via 111 to get an appointment at the injuries unit if possible. I wouldn't bother with the GP personally.

2 yos aren't capable of exaggerating at that level so he's obviously in pain. For pain relief maybe use Ibuprofen rather than Calpol as it's an anti inflammatory.

We had exactly the same issue and waited til day 3 to take her for an x ray (GP advice as he thought it was ok but said it wouldn’t matter if it was a hairline fracture to leave it a day and see if she started walking on it again. She didn’t! Took her to ED and they told us that it may be a hairline fracture and often can’t be seen on x ray at her age (3), but x ray confirmed a fracture so a full leg plaster for 3 weeks which she got on with just fine (co sultans said kids just carry on and don’t make a fuss lol - he was right! Nirsery had to stop her climbing the slide 🤣
I’d pop back to ED and explain it’s still hurting and could they investigate further - I’d likely do this by calling the non emergency dr first though - good luck

Did you end up going back? How is she now?

Is this for me? It was 13 years ago now, she had a plaster cast for 3 weeks and after that it was fine, never had an issue again

I used to teach trampolining. It's notorious for ACL and MCL knee injuries. I don't know if a normal x-ray would diagnose that. I think you need to get LO seen again when awake.
