Title says it all really lol! My DD starts high school on Wednesday and she’s came through to my room for a cuddle cause she isn’t feeling good. I did suspect this morning but she was like I’m fine. She’s got a sniffly nose, aching body and a temperature and made a joke about having Covid 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve given her paracetamol for the temperature and ibuprofen for the body aches, filled up her big Stanley with diluted black currant and gotten her a bottle of water out the fridge and put her to bed with the tv on and lights off. I’m wondering if she is unwell or could it be her bodies way of being nervous for starting high school. Fingers crossed she wakes up tomorrow completely fine….. eeek!

Fingers crossed for you OP. At least she hasn’t been sick!
missing the first day of secondary might seem huge but in the grand scheme of things, it happens - and if it does she will be fine.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 11/08/2025 21:57

How come achool starts in early August for her, op, out of curiosity?

If she has to miss the first couple of days, she will feel it a little but it'll pass and she will settle in x

Soonflower · 11/08/2025 21:59

also if you think it is anxiety/nerves - keep in mind that starting on the first day with everyone else, rather than postponing the inevitable, is a better option.

Some places like Scotland start summer break earlier and go back earlier.

Had no idea, thanks

It's unlikely that nerves would do this. It's usually tummy troubles with nerves, rather than viral symptoms.

See what she's like when she wakes up. If she's too ill to go, she's too ill. Nobody needs a covid outbreak to start the school year.

I am going to do a Covid test in the morning and see how she is. She will feel really rubbish if she missed Wednesday. It’s such a big day for her and her friend. However as use have said if she’s ill she’s ill and I do not want to be responsible for others getting unwell soon as they are back to school. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. She’s been totally fine for 6 weeks lol!

The first 3 weeks were slow lol but the final 3 weeks have went faster I suppose getting uniform organised etc has been a big part of it. Got to iron her shirts tomorrow and a YouTube tutorial for her tie lol!! I hope next 3 weeks go fast for you. Won’t be long until they are all off again for some random mid term haha x

@legoplaybook To make it even more confusing different regions have different dates. Some are back this Wednesday, and some are back next Wednesday (20th). DGS is next week.
