Not really sure the aim of my post but more of a handhold. My oldest daughter was hit by a van this morning. She has so many injuries and I am so scared

So sorry to hear this OP. I hope she’s on the mend soon and you have a good support network around you.

Oh this is horrific. Accept the help people offer. Make a list of what would be helpful - walk the dog, hoover, get pasta, give you a lift to the hospital so you don't have to think when people ask you what they can do. Huge hugs.

So sorry. How old is your daughter? Did you witness it? You must be devastated.

No, I wasn't there. She was out for a run, and the police were. She stepped off the footpath just as the van was going past. I'm devastated she is 13

Have you spoken to a Dr? Have you been given a plan?

Agree ask for help. Make sure you eat and drink well as your DD will need you well for her.

And keep coming to this thread as much or as little as you need/want.

If there one time MNers come through it’s to be of help and support when it’s needed.

She’s having surgery tomorrow on her leg. She’s got a little bleed in her tummy, some of her right lung collapsed and so much road rash all over. I’m thanking god her head seems to not hit the ground to hard just a few bumps

Poor her and poor you. Just plod along, and try to get a shower and something to eat while she's in surgery so that you're not just sat there waiting as it's a long long wait otherwise x

I'm so sorry to read this, I can't imagine how it felt hearing what had happened.
Just to echo what pps have said, don't neglect yourself while you support her - I know our own needs always seem unimportant when our children need us but she needs you to be strong 💐

I would ask about play therapists etc in the ward because if she’s a runner (what a star being that dedicated at 13) it’s going to hard for her being incapacitated for an indefinite amount of time.

Really had to hear there’s no head injury though. There always a silver lining.

Surgery was a lot longer than we expected she had a blood transfusion and we are spedning a night in the intensive care unit and she is having another CT scan in the morning. She is in a lot of pain but has mainly been sleeping

So sorry its been a horrid week. She is doing okay just about. Still in a lot of pain and has an infection but managed to keep her at home. She is so exhaused and sleeping most of the days and awake by niht

Wishing her continued improvement bit by bit. Sounds like things are going in the right direction although she is in pain. Do keep updating if you want to.
