Chickenpox

Hi all.

My 21 month old seems to have what I think is chickenpox. I say this as they have not blistered over yet but she has been developing pox here and there over the period of a few days (she has only had around 6, a few on her legs and 1 on her arm but a few of my friends kids apparently only got a couple of spots when they had it too)

I think they are pox as her grandad had shingles around 2/3 weeks ago and she was round him quite a bit. She also has had a very high temp for the last 2 days, very ratty and upset etc. I’m giving her calpol and stripping her down when the temp spikes.

I don’t have many people to ask which is why I’m posting here, but the pox don’t seem to be bothering her at all. It’s the temperature that is upsetting her and me - I hate seeing her in distress. Is it common to get such a fever with chickenpox? Around 38.5 but it was 39.5 at the highest it got.

I must add once the paracetamol kicks in she tends to perk up quite a bit although tonight she has been particularly upset and tired, didn’t eat much today etc.

Any advice welcome and how long does this last?

Had this in July with my toddler. In the end, I assume it was actually hand foot and mouth. Both that and chickenpox seem everywhere just now. For mine, the spots never blistered so I assume not chickenpox. We had about five days of proper grumpy/feverish baby with isolated spots on limbs and face but not truck/neck/back, and then back to normal.
